Nirmala means virtuous and pure in Hindi and reflects the experience we offer when you stay at our retreat center, located in a serene region of western Ubud. Break from your daily routine so you can focus on yourself and your well-being. Our aim for you is to find freedom in your mind, body and soul through yoga, nutritious food, meditation, and holistic treatments in the surroundings of nature.
You can enjoy the spacious common areas or retreat to your private space when you need to recharge. All venue facilities are available to all our guests 24/7.
We provide the same level of housekeeping service in all spaces: the rooms are cleaned and fresh drinking water is delivered every day. Each room has the same essential set: AC’s, wi-fi, bathroom amenities, towels and comfortable bedding.
Our premises includes areas for relaxation, resting and connecting. We have a beautiful swimming pool surrounded by rice fields and jungle.
Participants usually fly into Ngurah Rai International Airport (Denpasar, Bali), and then take a taxi to the training center. Grab and Go-jek are the two main transportation apps in Bali and the easiest way to get around the island. We can also help you arrange transportation to our retreat center Villa Nirmala too. For a 8-day stay in Bali, Indonesia, the Visa on Arrival (VoA) is typically sufficient. Here’s what you need to know:
Visa on Arrival (VoA):
Important Considerations:
Recommendations:
Please check the country visa lists here, to see what visa regulation for Bali applies to you. Use the Visa Departure Calculator to make sure you don’t overstay your visa. Fines for overstay are around $75 per day.
Local Currency: The official currency in Bali, Indonesia, is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR).
Electricity: Bali uses 230V, 50Hz, and plugs are two-pronged rounded (Type C and F).
Language: The official language is Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia), but Balinese is widely spoken locally.
Climate: Bali has a tropical climate with two distinct seasons. The dry season runs from April to October, characterized by warm, sunny days and low humidity. The rainy season occurs from November to March, featuring humid conditions and short, intense bursts of rain, often in the afternoons or evenings.
ATMs in Bali
ATMs are widely available in Bali’s main cities and tourist areas, and they generally accept Visa and Mastercard networks. It’s a good idea to carry both types of cards if possible, as some ATMs may only accept one brand. Be aware that your bank may charge a fee for overseas withdrawals.
Cash Tips
Cash is essential in areas where ATMs might be scarce, particularly in remote villages. Indonesian Rupiah is the only accepted currency, but US Dollars, Euros, and Australian Dollars can be easily exchanged at authorized money changers.
If you bring US Dollars, ensure the notes are new, crisp, and free from tears or markings, as older or damaged bills might be rejected. Carry some cash for emergencies, but avoid keeping large amounts on hand for safety reasons. A mix of ATM cards and cash is the ideal combination.
Zuna Yoga® is a school of hatha vinyasa yoga. Our style can be described as traditional hatha, which is characterized by attention to alignment and holding poses longer, combined with flowing, dynamic vinyasa sequences. The Zuna Yoga® system includes the use of asana, bandha, mudra, pranayama, mantra, meditation, yoga nidra and other components.
Transportation and guided tours throughout the retreat are provided in collaboration with the Kupu-Kupu Foundation, a local organization that empowers and supports individuals with disabilities in Bali. By partnering with this foundation, we ensure seamless logistics and access to knowledgeable local guides while contributing directly to their mission. A portion of the proceeds goes to the foundation, helping to make a meaningful impact in the community.
We recommend packing as lightly as possible to make checking in and out of accommodations easier. Extra-large suitcases are not advised—most travelers opt for a backpack or a medium-sized rolling bag. Additionally, bring a daypack to carry essentials like water, a camera, and personal items.
In Bali, it is customary to tip service providers such as waitstaff, though the practice is not as ingrained as in some countries. A tip of 5-10% of the bill is appreciated if a service charge hasn’t already been added. While tipping may not be customary for you, it is a meaningful gesture to those providing you with care and hospitality during your travels.
For drivers and local guides, tips are appreciated and can range from IDR 50,000–100,000 (approximately USD 3–7) per person per day, depending on the quality and duration of the service. If you’re traveling with a group, you can tip individually or pool contributions for a collective tip. Your guide or organizer can provide more specific recommendations based on local customs.
In Bali, the dress code is generally more relaxed, but it is important to dress respectfully, especially when visiting temples or participating in traditional ceremonies. Avoid wearing short shorts, skirts, or tank tops when entering sacred sites. Instead, opt for modest clothing that covers your shoulders and knees. Sarongs and sashes are often required at temples and are usually available to rent or borrow on-site.
The arrival and departure airport is Ngurah Rai International Airport (Denpasar, Bali).
