Lead Trainers

Everett Newell

Founder - Master Trainer
ERYT500 / YACEP

If we haven't the strength to impose our own terms upon life, then we must accept what it offers us.

Everett Newell is the founder of Zuna Yoga® and the principal developer of the Zuna Yoga® Method, the approach behind its teacher trainings, retreats, and educational programs.

His study of movement, yoga, and contemplative practice spans more than three decades. Beginning in 1991, he trained extensively in martial arts with Grandmaster Bong Soo Han, one of the leading figures in bringing Hapkido to the West. Everett remained closely connected to him for many years, eventually becoming part of his teaching staff and continuing that relationship until Grandmaster Han’s death.

In 2001, Everett was initiated into the Himalayan tradition of Swami Rama, beginning a sustained period of study in meditation, pranayama, philosophy, and the traditional methods of Hatha Yoga. His path later led to initiation and continuing study in Sri Vidya, a Tantric tradition, with Dr. ShivaKumar. These traditions, together with decades of embodied practice and teaching, have deeply informed the development of the Zuna Yoga® Method.

Everett’s professional teaching career also began in Los Angeles, where he owned and taught at Divine Motion Yoga. During his years there, the studio was voted Best Los Angeles Yoga Studio three times. He later moved to New York City, teaching at Pure Yoga from 2010 to 2012, before relocating to Indonesia in 2013 to establish Zuna Yoga®.

For 24 years, Everett has taught yoga, meditation, and teacher education, working with students internationally. Over time, the different strands of his study and experience developed into an integrated approach in which movement, breath, meditation, philosophy, self inquiry, embodiment, and purpose are understood as connected dimensions of practice.

His teaching is rooted in tradition without asking students to accept tradition as doctrine. Students are encouraged to practice carefully, question assumptions, investigate their own experience, and draw from both traditional knowledge and contemporary understanding. In the classroom, his teaching is direct and intellectually engaged, but consistently returns to what can be practiced, observed, understood, and lived.

Everett teaches Zuna Yoga’s residential trainings from beginning to end alongside Dr. Marion Tharrey. With intentionally small cohorts and consistent lead teachers throughout the program, he works closely with students through discussion, feedback, and personal mentorship across the full course of their training.

Marion Tharrey

PhD in Public Health Nutrition
LEAD TRAINER ERYT200® / RYT500

It is better to live your destiny imperfectly than to live an imitation of somebody else’s life with perfection.

Dr. Marion Tharrey is a lead residential teacher and co-leader of Zuna Yoga®. With a PhD in Public Health Nutrition and a background in public health research, she brings a scientific perspective to the study and teaching of yoga, particularly in the areas of physiology, self regulation, embodied awareness, learning, and human development.

Born and raised in the South of France, Marion began her career in nutrition and public health, completing a master’s degree in Nutrition and Human Diet Sciences followed by a PhD in Public Health Nutrition in 2020. She subsequently worked as a researcher in Luxembourg, studying how environments and human behavior interact to influence physical and mental well being.

Her own exploration of yoga gradually developed from a movement practice into a broader inquiry into meditation, awareness, regulation, and the relationship between inner experience and the way we live. That interest eventually brought her to Zuna Yoga®, where she completed the full Zuna Yoga teacher education pathway and continued through extensive personal training and mentorship within the method.

In 2024, Marion was initiated into the Sri Vidya tradition by Dr. ShivaKumar, further deepening her study of the philosophical and contemplative roots that inform the Zuna Yoga® Method.

Marion joined the Zuna Yoga team in 2024 and is now closely involved in both its teaching and continuing development. She teaches throughout Zuna Yoga’s residential programs alongside Everett Newell, working with students across movement, breathwork, meditation, physiology, self awareness, teaching methodology, and the practical integration of yoga into daily life.

Her scientific training strongly influences the way she teaches. She is particularly interested in how physiology and nervous system state shape attention, perception, behavior, and our capacity to learn and respond. At the same time, she does not approach yoga as something that can be reduced to physiology alone. Her work explores where traditional knowledge, direct experience, and contemporary research can meaningfully inform one another, while remaining clear about the limits of what science can currently explain.

In the classroom, Marion brings curiosity, precision, and a strong emphasis on understanding rather than simply memorizing concepts. She helps students translate complex ideas into language they can investigate through their own experience and eventually communicate clearly to others.

Together with Everett, she provides continuity throughout Zuna Yoga’s residential trainings. With intentionally small cohorts, this allows her to know students individually and support their development through ongoing discussion, observation, feedback, and personal mentorship across the full training.

LUCIA HEGENBARTOVA

M.Sc. in Business Administration
ERYT200® / RYT500

Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.

Following her interest in technology and consciousness, Lucia has contributed to turning multiple early-stage technology startups into global market leaders over the last 15 years, while embarking on a journey of inner exploration through art, yoga, meditation and a wide range of body-based practices. She is captivated by the magic of merging seemingly opposite perspectives between the analytical and the intuitive realm, business and meaning, art and science, tech and wisdom, AI and humanity.

Lucia has completed her 200 hr and 300 hr YTT and 300 hr MTT with Zuna Yoga. She is pursuing the teaching path in parallel to her career as a technology executive, striving for an integration between thinking and feeling, and between the worldly and spiritual realms in her way of life. She is interested in holistic health, longevity, embodiment, mindfulness and exploring the nature of perception and consciousness. Lucia is particularly passionate about exploring the power of breath to modulate the emotional state and cognitive performance and aims to bring the wisdom of breath into boardrooms around the world.

Angelina Stolz

ERYT500®

I would like my life to be a statement of love and compassion, and where it isn’t, that’s where my work lies.

Angelina was born and raised in a small town in the countryside of Austria. At age of 22 she moved to Vienna to study Nutritional Sciences and work as a model, which marked the beginning of a period of enormous change, growth and new possibilities. Shortly after arriving in the city, she attended her first yoga class and instantly fell in love with the practice.

It didn’t take long for her to realize she wanted to dive much deeper into the world of yoga and to share her love for it with others. Within a year, she completed her first 200YTT and immediately began teaching at several studios in Vienna. Pursuing her passion in a dedicated manner, she also traveled around the world, teaching at hotels and festivals in Europe and the South Pacific.

Angelina was fascinated by the teachings and methods of Zuna Yoga. The lectures go far beyond teaching Yoga and its philosophy – from ancient tradition to modern science, connecting and combining it all with direct experience, giving a clear understanding of what Yoga is about and how to embody and live it in the modern world.

Angelina later joined the Zuna Yoga team to enjoy the fulfillment and privilege of sharing this knowledge, helping and supporting students on their way closer to themselves.
